Our Mission
The David H. Murdock Research Institute (DHMRI) will be the preferred provider of advanced
research technologies to academic, government and industry scientists
in their pursuit of improved human health through advancements in
nutrition, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural products.
The scope of the DHMRI mission encompasses three complementary sets of operations:
- Established research technologies: DHMRI will provide competitive advantage to
DHMRI clients by virtue of superior service, reliability, integration, data management,
scale, and/or pricing.
- Esoteric research technologies: Such services will be highly distinctive and not
otherwise available to DHMRI clients, by virtue of unique instrumentation and/or
methodology. The DHMRI will support ongoing innovation in research technologies, so
as to host continuously within its portfolio of services, some that are unique within the
region, nation or the world.
- Signature research: The DHMRI will be acknowledged as contributing materially to
research of transforming importance (e.g. “redefining disease”) by two avenues. Clients
from within the NCRC campus or those drawn from the affiliated universities will
acknowledge DHMRI in their publications. In addition, the DHMRI will support directly,
on a highly selective basis, the research activities of a few leading scientists (DHMRI
Investigators) working on‐ or off‐site on projects that require the distinctive capabilities
of the DHMRI laboratories. This latter activity is included in the mission not only to
enhance the visibility and international reputation of DHMRI, but to contribute to a
culture of continuous innovation among the full time DHMRI scientific staff.
The David H. Murdock Research Institute (DHMRI) also strives to contribute significantly to transforming human health, nutrition and agriculture by
- Providing new insights through impactful science using system‐based approaches.
- Becoming the leading center in the world at the intersection of human health, nutrition and agriculture
- Transforming our insights into how agriculture and nutrition can better mankind
- Redefining human disease
- Creating a unique environment for organizations to grow and thrive at the North Carolina Research Campus.
- Developing unique partnerships via collaborations to make NCRC a world class scientific community
- Delighting and amazing our customers by efficiently providing high quality science and service
- Fostering an environment that attracts, motivates and retains highly talented employees who will drive the future success of DHMRI and NCRC.
