Our Science

The DHMRI’s research interests range from open discovery to detailed characterization of complex biological systems. In addition, we provide the flexibility to combine a broad spectrum of approaches and techniques to provide customer oriented solutions to complex biological problems. Fields of expertise include:

Agriculture

As the demand for healthier, cheaper, increased shelf life food products increases, agricultural research leverages complex analytical tools to characterize and understand the impact of biological changes on crops/food-stuffs. Efforts focus on improving the predictability of plant breeding by providing multi-platform molecular profiling of a variety of species, as well a characterization of natural products and nutraceuticals.

Functional foods, supplements, and nutrition

The role of food and nutrition in maintaining and improving human health is a key interest for Institute researchers. Research focuses on monitoring the physiological and molecular response to diet, exercise, and nutrition. Information is used to better understand the role genetics and environment play in the impact of dietary changes.

Human health including therapeutics and diagnostics

As medicine becomes more stratified, the DHMRI supports discovery and development path that leads from bench to bedside. In bridging the gap from academic research to industry solutions, the Institute focuses on early discovery activities like biomarker discovery and validation programs and other preclinical activities both in vitro and in vivo, as well as offering clinical trial support through immune monitoring and analysis.

Customized analytical solutions

Taking the perspective that answers to complex problems require a multifaceted approach, the Institute is able to apply a range of expertise and analytical systems to identify creative solutions.
